Website security best practices for Kerala businesses — updates, access, backups, forms — without security theatre or fake certifications.

Most breakages we see are postponed updates, shared passwords in a chat, and forms that email a folder nobody owns. Website security best practices are mostly hygiene. They are not a badge we will invent, and they are not a reason to buy a tool you will not open.
This is the care we expect to leave behind on Code Vibe Digital projects — WordPress, Next.js, or a shop.
Access is named
No shared admin in a WhatsApp thread. People have logins. Offboarding is a click. Secrets do not live in the repo. Service-role keys never go to the browser — that is a product rule, not a slogan.
If a nephew still has the only FTP password, the site is already at risk, even if nobody has hacked it yet.
Updates and backups you can restore
Core, plugins, dependencies — on a schedule, while everyone is sober. Backups that have been restored once, not only downloaded. Hosting that still gets patches.
A maintenance retainer exists so this is not a hero weekend. If we did not build the site, we audit before we watch it.
Forms and data
Collect what you need to reply. Contact submissions should not be world-readable. HTTPS everywhere. If you handle payments, use a proper gateway — do not store card numbers because a tutorial did.
Healthcare and similar categories have a higher duty of care. We will not write miracle claims or store what we cannot protect.
What we will not pretend
No fake certifications, no ‘military grade’ copy, no guaranteed immunity. Security is a practice. We reduce obvious risk and leave a map for the next engineer.
If you need a full audit for a regulated environment, that is a named specialist. We will say when we are the wrong room.
