How to build a booking system that tells the truth about dates — boats, rooms, clinics — without treating every asset like a hotel room.

A booking system is a calendar with consequences. Double-book a houseboat in December and you will meet a family on the jetty. Treat a day cruise like an overnight room and the software will lie.
This is the shape we use at Code Vibe Digital in Kerala — useful for tourism, stays, clinics and anyone whose ‘yes’ has to be scarce.
Model the thing, not the genre
Boats have yard days, check-ins that are not 2pm, packages that are really three products. Clinics have walk-ins and emergencies that are not forms. Homestays have a host who will not log into an ERP.
If you start from hotel software and subtract, you will miss the exceptions that are the business.
One calendar to rule the yeses
Holds expire. Confirmed nights are sacred. Agents see only their allotment. OTAs can stay if the API is real — we will not scrape a portal and call it sync.
WhatsApp remains a desk. The click from Instagram should arrive with dates already in the thread when we can.
Public face and admin face
The guest needs truth: what is left, what it costs, what happens when it rains. The operator needs a screen they will open at 9pm. If either side is theatre, the system will be bypassed and the notebook will return.
Payments, deposits, refunds — named. Beauty after the contract works.
Ship a thin vertical
One complete path live first: request, hold, confirm, pay or pay later, notify. Then reporting, agents, packages. Trust is earned with a working slice.
If you are six weeks from peak season, we will tell you what cannot honestly ship. Pathanamthitta in October is not the moment to invent a platform.
